History of Jewel Changi in a nutshell

The concept for Jewel Changi Airport was conceived as part of the Airport's long-term development plans to enhance its facilities and attractions. Construction of Jewel Changi began in 2014, and officially opened to the public on April 17, 2019, with a grand ceremony attended by Singapore's Prime Minister and other dignitaries.

Who built Jewel Changi?

The design of the Jewel Changi was led by world-renowned architect Moshe Safdie, known for his innovative and sustainable architectural designs. Safdie, an Israeli-Canadian architect, can also be credited for the iconic Marina Bay Sands in Singapore, and Habitat 67, a unique housing complex in Canada.

Architecture of Jewel Changi Airport

The Jewel is designed in a doughnut shape, with a large central atrium that houses the Rain Vortex, the world's tallest indoor waterfall. The exterior is largely made up of a glass facade, allowing natural light to flood the interior and providing views of the surrounding landscape. The interior is filled with plants and trees, creating a lush garden environment. The Jewel was built as a sustainable construction, supported by energy-efficient systems, rainwater harvesting, and a focus on natural ventilation and lighting to reduce energy consumption.
