Animals at Singapore Zoo
African Lion
These majestic creatures, usually found between the southern fringe of the Sahara to northern South Africa face high risk of extinction in the wild due to old hunting practices that have now been banned.
African Painted Dog
Declared vulnerable by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN),the African Painted Dog is known for its colorful coat. These pack animals are great hunters that take on larger animals like wildebeests.
African Penguin
Each Penguin has a feather pattern that is unique, much like our fingerprints. You will find these creatures along the coasts and islands of southern Africa. They are considered to be endangered.
Aldabra Giant Tortoise
The Aldabra is the only surviving species of land tortoises out of 18 species. These vulnerable creatures live up to a 100 years and naturally found on the three islets of the Aldabra Atoll on the Indian Ocean.
Asian Elephant
Four female elephants, Komali, Jati, Intan and Gambir, live at the Singapore Zoo. These animals live anywhere between 60-70 years (80 under human care), but have been declared as endangered.
Bornean Orangutan
There are five Bornean Orangutan at the Singapore Zoo. Orangutans are apes, are hence, do not have tails. These species are usually found in the rainforests of Borneo and Sumatra.
Cheetah
Cheetahs are known to be the fastest land animal that are native to Africa and central Iran. They are believed to be at high risk of extinction in the wild. They have a lifespan of 6-8 years but can live up to 17-19 years under human care.
Cotton-top Tamarin
A family of Cotton-top Tamarins, complete with a father, mother and three young ones will live at the Singapore Zoo. These animals are considered to be at extremely high risk of extinction in the wild.
Komodo Dragon
Pygmy Hippo
Pygymy Hippos are endangered animals that are endemic to the Upper Guinea Forest of West Africa. These small hippopotamid creatures tend to be reclusive and nocturnal.
Ring-tailed Lemur
The ring-tailed lemur, belonging to Lemuride, one of the five lemur families, is a large strepsirrhine primate that us characterized by its long, black and white ringed tail. It is endemic to the island of Madagascar.

Two-toed Sloth
The Amazon rainforest is the only place in the world where the two-toed sloths are found in the wild. Found in the Northern part of South America, these creatures live for an average of 28 years under human care/
White Rhinoceros
24 Whire Rhinos have been born in the Singapore Zoo, but many of them have have moved on to other zoos. The white rhinoceros or square-lipped rhinoceros is the largest extant species of rhinoceros.
White Tiger
All the White Tigers in human care today are descendants of Mohan, the first white tiger cub was caught in Rewa, India. A pair of siblings, Pasha and Keysa, came from Indonesia's Maharani Zoo.
Regal Horned Lizard
Found largely in Northwestern Mexico, extending into the southwestern United States, this lizard is characterized by its crown of thorny horns made of four large horns and six smaller ones.
Malayan Flying Fox
Malayan flying fox, goes by many names, such as the greater flying fox, Malaysian flying fox, The large flying fox, large fruit bat, kalang, or kalong. Found in Continental and Southeast Asia, they are a southeast Asian species of megabat.
Californian Sea Lion
The California sea lion, native to western coast and islands of North America, are adept swimmers. They live up to 30 years in the wild. They are known for their playful nature.
Chimpanzee
Found in the Southern Senegal region to western Tanzania and western Uganda, Chimpazees are at very high risk of extinction in the wild.
Grey Kangaroo
One of the largest kangaroo species, the eastern grey kangaroo lives 8-10 years in wild. Largely found in Australia, they thrive in forests and grasslands. They are great swimmers and known to evade predators by diving.

Australasia
The Australasia zone houses marsupials, usually found in Australia, New Guinea, Indonesia, and the Americas. You will also find Wallabies, and tree kangaroos from Papua New Guinea in this exhibit. Cassowary, considered to be one of the world's most dangerous birds, also lives in this zone.The Australasia offers a walk-through or a viewing gallery from where you can witness the Kangaroos and the Wallabies in live-action.
Elephants of Asia
The Singapore Zoo consists of a one-hectare open exhibit, constructed with intricate details hailing from the Burmese architecture that houses approximately five herds of elephants. They have an open pool and a peacefully quiet environment to themselves. Visitors can witness these elephants splashing pool water at each other or simply trying to grab their snack boxes consisting of banana treats hung up high.
Fragile Forest
This zone mimics the environmental conditions of a tropical rainforest. Many invertebrates and amphibians tend to be well-camouflaged with their natural habitat that it may take some moments to spot them! You might see The Malayan Flying Foxes and the Crowned Pigeon as you stroll down the dome. Enjoy close encounters of invertebrates at Discovery Outpost!
Great Rift Valley of Ethiopia
The steep cliffs and rocky faces imitate the rugged terrain of the Rift Valley in Eastern Africa. You will find recreation of the Konso and Amharic villages. Hamadryas Baboons, Nubian ibexes, meerkats, and rock hyraxes are some of the animals you will spot. Visit their coffee exhibit to learn about how the Coffea Arabica originated from Ethiopia’s Kaffa region.
Primate Kingdom
In the Primate Kingdom each species has their own island. It is covered with lush green landscaping trees, bamboo, palms and wild grasses. The islands consist of moats filled with fish. You will also find tiny castles for the furry primates to dwell in. Look out for the Javan langurs, Cotton-top tamarins, Ring-tailed lemurs, White-faced saki monkeys and Black-and-white ruffed lemurs while you are here.
Rainforest Kidzworld
In the heart of Singapore Zoo, you will find the Rainforest Kidzworld. It houses the Falabellas, the world's smallest horse breed. You can even watch them get groomed if you reach the stables by 10 AM. Children can ride on Candy, King, Rosie, Buddy, or Belle, the ponies. Meet Gottingen Mini Pigs and play with rabbits, guinea pigs, hedgehogs, and rats at the Buddy Barn.
Reptile Garden
The Reptile Garden houses some rare and exotic species of reptiles. This zone consists of three exhibits. RepTopia houses over 60 species of reptiles and amphibians. You can learn about some of the world’s most severely threatened tortoises and meet the world’s second-largest tortoise, the Aldabra Giant Tortoise. View estuarine crocodiles, giant Malayan river terrapins, and giant snakeheads at Sungei Buaya.
Treetops Trail
The Treetops Trail showcases animals based on the various layers of a rainforest. The Siamangs, Anna and Ako, are the most famous occupants of this exhibit. They greet you with their unique song composed of booms and barks, which you will be able to hear from the entrance. You will also be able to meet the Greater Mousedeer and False Gharial here.
Wild Africa
The endemic species of Africa have adapted over time to survive in the region’s diverse range of habitats, from tropical rainforests to harsh deserts. This zone that emulates the environmental conditions of Africa, is home to zebras, and giraffes. See white rhinos bathing in their communal dung piles. Watch keepers groom African painted dogs. Learn more about Africa and its nature heritage at the cheetah observation hut.
